On today’s podcast, we’re going to talk about tool number three of the ten tools of an effective advocate. I know I say every tool is my favorite but this one truly is the most vital tool in the advocacy toolbox. This tool is the most critical for making effective and lasting change in your life, in your commitments, and in your relationships with others. I have seen it in the courtroom and I have seen it in my own life — this tool will give you the confidence you need to begin truly believing in yourself and rising to your best self.

Today we will explore —

The importance of believing in yourself

– You have to find something that you believe in before you can advocate for anything
– You are far less likely to get what you want if you don’t believe you deserve it
– Credibility is a tool that allows people to develop a belief
– Credibility is the predecessor to trust and confidence
– If you want to have confidence in yourself, you have to believe in yourself first

How to build credibility

– Make and keep promises, and set and meet expectations to yourself and to others
– Your trust and self-confidence will increase when you build credibility with yourself
– Admit to yourself and others when you fall short of the promises you’ve made
– Humility offers a grounded alternative to allowing yourself to be vulnerable
– If you’re not ready to own these tools for yourself, you can lean on my beliefs, for now
