Abide with Me: Podcast Series on Death & Dying

by

“Abide with Me” was inspired from the Christian hymn of the same name. The text is from the gospel of Luke 24:29, in which the two travelers to Emmaus ask Jesus to “stay with us, for it is nearly evening.” In the hymn, “evening” is a metaphor for the end of life. The Christian perspective offers comfort and hope as God walks with us through all of life’s transitions. The goal of this podcast series is to inspire families to talk about end of life issues. These discussions are never easy, but they are invaluable for those we leave behind. Pre-planning helps survivors cope and offers direction for the next steps following the death of a loved one. This Podcast is a series in three parts:Part One: Jeanne McGill, a certified preplanning consultant, leads us through the many options for planning a dignified and meaningful funeral. Part Two: Margaret Barrett, attorney and owner of Safe Harbor Estate Law discusses the legal side of financial planning, wills, and trusts. Part Three: Jim Heymans, the lead social worker from Ecumen Hospice talks about different levels of care with the onset of advanced age or illness.A special thank you to my friend Paul Damico-Carper who played the hymn at just the right tempo. This podcast was recorded and edited by Marshall Saunders at the studios of Minnesota Podcasting. They can be found online at MNPodcasting.com.
