Tolkien is known for his humble heroes, the Hobbits of the Shire. Whenever a character in The Lord of the Rings gives into pride, destruction occurs. While Tolkien is obviously warning against the danger of pride and greed, two of the Seven Deadly Sins, the moral arguments of other fantasy novels are more opaque. In the first episode of Let Them Hunt Vampires, I’ll be analyzing hubris in Brandon Sanderson’s The Final Empire. How is his implicit moral argument similar and dissimilar to that of Tolkien’s?
