Innocent until proven guilty or no smoke without fire? Which one accurately describes your perception of the UK Criminal Justice system? What does; “beyond reasonable doubt” mean? Can you ever be sure? In this series, I talk to people who were victims of high profile miscarriage of justice cases including; Michael O’Brien (one of the Cardiff Newsagent Three), John Actie wrongly charged with the murder of Lynette White and remanded for nearly two years until his trial, victims of the Post Office Scandal. I talk to family members including; Barry George’s sister, Michelle and I am joined by others who have fought and continue to fight for justice including; investigative journalist Don Hale OBE and MOJO (the charity founded by Paddy Hill). Sadly, miscarriages of justice have happened and continue to happen here in the UK and the reality is that one day this could happen to you or someone you love. Some people may find the content of this series very upsetting and some episodes contain strong language and details regarding violence and sexual assaults. About the host: Maxine Twynam I am a practicing criminal defence solicitor. I have predominantly worked for small niche criminal defence firms representing people accused of a range of crimes from driving offences, shoplifting to sexual offences, serious violence and murder.
