2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. But there is also another lesser-known space anniversary this year: 2019 is the 40th anniversary of when Skylab, America’s first space station, came crashing down to earth. Existing under the long shadow of the moon landing, the Skylab missions are not exactly common mainstream knowledge. And yet they did great things for furthering our understanding of science, space, and long-term space travel. In this podcast, Skylab nerd, author, and filmmaker Dwight Steven-Boniecki shares his knowledge about what the Skylab missions were, the experiments that were carried out, the drama around its launch, the forgotten astronauts who flew on the missions, and also covers why we should care about Skylab at all. Dwight Steven-Boniecki directed Searching For Skylab, the first full-length documentary about the space station. Shaun Behrens is the host.
