The A.I. Therapist

The A.I. Therapist

by

I started this podcast a few weeks after the launch of GPT-4, stupidly enthusiastic as to the potential of Al in my work as a psychotherapist. Engaging with the technology has brought up numerous koans, including Hillman and Ventura’s provocative “We’ve Had A Hundred Years of Psychotherapy— And The World Is Getting Worse.” If Al can replicate empathy, companionship, and insight, why would we seek it from another person? What elements of therapy hold genuine significance and depth for us? What occurs when an Al entity uncovers or mimics aspects of our humanity we’d rather not acknowledge?
