First there was the spoken word. Then came history books. Followed by radio, television and now the internet. Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, we can access historical interpretations at the simple touch of a screen. But how accurate are these depictions?
Napoleon Bonaparte famously proclaimed: “History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.” Orwell warned “Who controls the past controls the future.” And we have all heard the cliche “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.” But what if we could learn about historical events through the testimonials of those where were actually there to watch it unfold? “
I WAS THERE! is a series of lively, first hand conversations capturing the memories of eyewitnesses to modern history who are willing to share their unfiltered firsthand experiences with the rest of us. Whether the moments in time recounted by guest eyewitnesses are significant or fleeting, this humble podcast strives to make them all memorable.
