The Actresses’ Franchise League was founded in 1908 as ‘a bond of union between all women in the Theatrical profession who are in sympathy with the Woman’s Franchise Movement’. With discussion, and extracts from Edwardian Suffrage plays, this event celebrated and reflect on the role of theatre in the fight for Votes for Women. Guests include actors Samantha Bond (Amy’s View, Downton Abbey); Janie Dee (Carousel, Noises Off); Professor Maggie Gale (Chair in Drama at the University of Manchester); and Naomi Paxton (researcher and editor of The Methuen Drama Book of Suffrage Plays). Chaired by Genista McIntosh. This is a recording of a live Platform event from June 2013.
